A strong turn out in a sodden Ebbw Vale RFC, ensured an excellent day out at the annual AGM. This years guest speaker was Haydn Mainwaring

Despite only wining one cap for Wales, against France in 1961. Haydn appeared many times for the Barbarians in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Later Haydn went on to be a member of the Barbarian and Welsh Crawshay committee's

Haydn spoke eloquently about his career, and especially about his most famous rugby exploit. During the 1961 game between the Barbarians and South Africa, Haydn was a late call up to play full back. On the 17th minute Avril Malan the SA captain went storming up the touchline, Haydn hit Malan with his shoulder and felled him like a log. He later couldn't attend the after game dinner.

This incident was cited as the 2nd most famous Barbarians clip after "that man Edwards" ... sadly despite searching for the clip I haven't been able to source it ... can anyone help ?

At the end of the game Haydn was carried shoulders high from the field, the Barbarians wining 6-0.

We also held a fantastic auction where a wild variety of items were sold to members and a grand total of £1000 raised for RMS funds. Haydn donated a genuine Barbarians players tie which was auctioned for a good sum.
