Wales Win in Paris
The tenth and last match of the 1953 championship series was in the nature of an anti-climax, but Wales had to work hard to beat France in a mediocre struggle in Paris. The score was two tries to one penalty goal. Again France suffered badly from the lack of a really first-class stand-off half, but the poor scrummaging of the Welsh pack gave the infinitely cleverer Morgan little encouragement. It was adroit kicking and the same kind of solid stopping that baffled Ireland which eventually succeeded.Wales led at the interval by a try scored by Griffiths in the follow-up. Afterwards, the play improved and there were breakaways by Bleddyn Williams, Ken Jones and R.C.C Thomas before Griffiths gathered a kick across by the last named and sidestepped his way through the defence. Davies again failed to convert and a penalty goal by Bertrand forced Wales to continue their best efforts in order to ensure Victory.
